Welcome!
Busy Bee Knits is a blog that I'll be using to talk about knitting and to offer my original knitted designs and patterns.
My first offering is Haley's Roses, a sock pattern I designed to help raise money for the fight against Neuroblastoma, a solid-tissue cancer that took the life of my two-year-old great-niece, Haley Rose Minchella.
Haley was born in the summer of 2003, and diagnosed with neuroblastoma in November, 2004, when she was less than a year-and-a-half old. In spite of a valiant battle and the skills of some of the best doctors in the the country, the disease took her life in August, 2005. Please visit Haleyland to read more about her and her family.
Haley's Roses is a multisized pattern (Child, Adult Medium, and Adult Large sizes included) for children and adults, to be knit in fingering-weight yarn. The turned-down cuff is sprinkled with tiny lace rosebuds set off by contrasting-color stripes. The heel flap is knit in alternating-color rows, and the instep is ribbed. The pattern includes options for knitting without the turned-down cuff and with stockinet-stitch instep.
You can contact me here for information on how to purchase the pattern in printable .pdf format, emailed to you for just $5.00.
The first sock shown was knit in Lang Jawoll superwash yarn in Pink and White. The second sock shown was knit in Louet Gems Merino Pearl yarn in French Blue and White by test-knitter extraordinaire, Nancy Wild.
All proceeds from the sale of this pattern will go to Lunch for Life, an organization devoted to raising money for neuroblastoma research. If you would like to make a donation, visit Lunch for Life, choose "Lunch for Life" from the fundraiser drop-down menu, and enter your donation in memory of Haley Rose Minchella. Every gift you give will help fight this terrible disease.
